How Much Does Shipping From China Cost?

Quick Answer

There is no dependable shipping price from China based on weight alone. A usable quote needs the destination postcode, product category, final packed actual weight, final carton dimensions, route billing rules, customs term and any optional services. Check the live YANCHAO shipping calculator for the current estimate; the warehouse’s final measurement and route eligibility determine the payable amount.

  • Actual weight: the packed parcel on the warehouse scale.
  • Volumetric weight: the space the packed parcel occupies.
  • Chargeable weight: normally the higher of actual and volumetric weight, subject to the selected route’s rules.
  • Customs term: DDP and DDU do not include the same charges or responsibilities.

Why Shipping Prices From China Differ

Two parcels with the same scale weight can produce different totals. One may contain ordinary clothing in a compact carton; the other may contain liquid cosmetics in a larger box. They can require different routes, packing and customs handling. A low advertised first-weight price therefore does not show the final cost of the shipment.

The Six Inputs That Control the Quote

1. Destination and postcode

Country, postcode and whether the address is remote affect route availability and final-mile delivery. Enter the full destination rather than comparing a generic “to the UK” or “to the USA” rate.

2. Product classification

Ordinary goods, food, liquids, powders, cosmetics, branded goods and products with built-in batteries are not interchangeable cargo categories. The item name, material or ingredients, quantity, capacity and battery information may be needed before a route can be confirmed. A route name that mentions “special goods” is not a blanket customs approval.

3. Final actual weight

The seller’s product weight is not the outbound parcel weight. Cartons, protective material and consolidation change the result. YANCHAO reweighs the parcel after packing; the outbound measurement is used for billing under the chosen route.

4. Final dimensions and volumetric weight

For a route using a 6000 divisor:

Volumetric weight (kg) = length × width × height (cm) ÷ 6000

A carton measuring 60 × 50 × 40 cm has a volumetric weight of 20 kg. If it weighs 5 kg on the scale, a standard ÷6000 route would normally use 20 kg as the starting chargeable weight. Some routes are labelled with a different divisor, such as 12000; use that treatment only when it appears in the current route terms. See the full volumetric-weight guide.

5. Minimum weight and billing increment

A route may have a minimum billable weight and may round the next portion to 0.5 kg or 1 kg. This is why multiplying a headline “per kilogram” figure by the scale weight can be wrong.

6. Customs term and optional services

DDP applies only when the selected route is explicitly quoted as DDP and the shipment meets its conditions. A DDU route can leave import taxes, duties or clearance steps to the recipient. Reinforcement, vacuum packing, insurance and other value-added services can also change the payable total; confirm them before approval.

Air, Sea or Express: Which One Should You Price?

MethodOften considered whenCheck before choosing
Air lineThe parcel is small or medium and delivery time mattersCargo eligibility, chargeable weight, route minimum, DDP/DDU and current transit estimate
Sea lineThe shipment is heavier and the delivery date is flexibleMinimum weight, carton limits, special-goods acceptance, destination coverage and current estimate
Commercial expressThe parcel is urgent and eligible for the carrierRemote-area charges, customs term, restricted goods and carrier surcharges

Method labels do not prove which route is cheapest. Compare eligible routes with the same packed parcel data and the same customs term.

What a Meaningful Shipping Quote Should Show

Quote fieldWhy it matters
Destination country and postcodeConfirms route and final-mile coverage
Detailed item listDetermines cargo classification and eligibility
Packed actual weightProvides the scale-weight input
Packed dimensionsAllows volumetric weight to be checked
Divisor and billing incrementExplains how chargeable weight is calculated
Route minimumShows whether a light parcel is still billed at a threshold
DDP or DDUClarifies who handles import charges and clearance responsibilities
Optional servicesSeparates packing, reinforcement, insurance or other approved charges
Transit estimate and starting eventPrevents comparing unlike time promises

Can Consolidation Reduce the Cost?

Consolidation lets purchases from several Chinese sellers arrive at one warehouse before international dispatch. Removing duplicate seller cartons or changing the packing arrangement may reduce actual or volumetric weight. It can also make one outbound shipment easier to manage.

It does not guarantee a lower total. Combining parcels may create a larger carton, increase volumetric weight, cross a route threshold or mix goods that cannot use the same line. Compare these two versions before shipping:

  • separate parcels, each with its own route minimum and packed dimensions;
  • the proposed consolidated parcel, with final actual weight, final dimensions and confirmed cargo classification.

How YANCHAO Handles the Estimate and Final Charge

  • Before packing: use the calculator and available package data to compare current eligible routes.
  • At the warehouse: parcels can be received, photographed and consolidated according to the selected service and current terms.
  • After packing: the warehouse records the final actual weight and dimensions, then applies the selected route’s billing rule.
  • Before dispatch: review the route, customs term, parcel measurements, optional services and payable amount.
  • When the estimate changes: the account is adjusted according to the final outbound measurement and order record.

YANCHAO’s current warehouse policy provides up to 180 days of free storage. This does not mean every inspection, packing or value-added service is free; check the applicable service details in the order before approving them.

How to Get a Current Shipping Estimate

  1. Enter the destination country and postcode.
  2. List each product accurately, including ingredients, capacity, quantity and battery information where relevant.
  3. Enter the best available actual weight and dimensions.
  4. Compare only the routes that accept the goods and parcel size.
  5. Check the divisor, minimum weight, billing increment, DDP/DDU term and transit estimate.
  6. Recheck the amount after the warehouse finishes packing and measuring the parcel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does shipping from China cost?

A reliable quote needs the destination postcode, item type, packed actual weight, packed dimensions, route billing increment, customs term and any optional services. A weight alone is not enough. Use the current calculator for an estimate and the warehouse measurement for the final payable amount.

How much does it cost to ship a 1 kg package from China?

There is no single 1 kg price. Some routes have a minimum charge or bill in 0.5 kg or 1 kg increments, and a large light box may be billed by volumetric weight. The destination and cargo classification can also change the available route.

What is the cheapest way to ship from China?

The cheapest eligible route depends on chargeable weight, parcel dimensions, product restrictions, destination and delivery deadline. Economy air or sea may cost less in suitable weight bands, but comparing the current total for the same packed parcel is more reliable than choosing by mode name.

Does parcel size affect the shipping cost?

Yes. On a route using a 6000 divisor, volumetric weight is length multiplied by width multiplied by height in centimetres, divided by 6000. The chargeable weight is normally the higher of actual and volumetric weight, subject to the route rules.

Does consolidation always reduce shipping cost?

No. Consolidation can remove duplicate seller packaging and combine dispatches, but a larger carton may increase volumetric weight or cross a billing threshold. Request the packed measurements and compare the eligible route total before approving shipment.

Are duties and taxes included?

Only when the selected route is explicitly quoted as DDP and the goods, value and destination meet that route’s conditions. Other routes may be DDU, which means the recipient can be responsible for import charges or clearance steps.
